Global Country Canada is pleased to announce the newest members of the Global Country
family. Although we had to do things differently this year, we took applications and held online
auditions and interviews and extended the competition closing date from early May until July
31, 2020. We had some great applicants and are thrilled with the talent we have discovered.
Brandon Lorenzo of Airdrie, AB was chosen as the winner, while Jacquie Daniels of St Albert
and Clint Baker of Calgary tied for second place. In the junior division Martina Dawn of Devon
was declared the winner with Rachel Byrne of Edmonton coming in second.
In January, fiddle player Laura Wallbank, of Gibbons, AB, was brought into Global Country as
an instrumentalist.
Global Country looks forward to working with our newest members when things get back to
normal.

Although we don't know when we will once again be able to continue our Global Country activities with live music, we have decided to cut off submissions for this year's Country Star Search on July 31, 2020. At that time we will assess all submissions and determine this year's inductees into out Global Country program.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Call For Submissions
We are revising how budding country artists can become part of the Global Country Program. Rather than holding open Country Star Search competitions, we are now hosting auditions for those artists working towards a career in the country music field. We are looking for solo artists performing Traditional or New Modern Country, and have now expanded the program to also accept Bluegrass, Gospel, and instrumentalists.
Would you like to be part of the Global Country Program? You can start by submitting a video of you performing two different country songs, plus providing a detailed written plan outlining your goals for a country music career. These can be submitted online and by email. The program is open to artists aged 13 to 30, who are aspiring to follow a serious career in country music.
From these submissions we will be picking the ones who we feel would best match our program, and inviting them to participate in live auditions on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at the Chateau Nova Yellowhead hotel in Edmonton. An interview will be conducted as part of our screening process. We want to make sure you are entering for the right reasons, not just to receive any prizes offered. The successful applicants will be determined at this event.
Country artists like Aaron Goodvin, Alee, Brett Kissel, Hailey Benedict, Hannah Gazso, Justin Hogg, Josh Ruzycki, and many more have all benefited from being a part of the Global Country program.
Your submission must include:
- Video of your performance
- Completed entry form with payment
- Written Objectives and Goals
- Why you would like to be part of our program

New talent joins Global Country family following Star Search competition
We are pleased to announce the latest additions to the Global Country Family. Country Star Search was held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 in Edmonton, with competitors from across the province.
Justin Sutton of Sturgeon County was chosen the winner, with Craig Silver of Calgary, as the runner up. A third place winner, Kat Zel, was also chosen in case either the winner or runner up become unable to continue with the program.
Occasionally the Board of Directors will add a Random Pick, a person who, besides exhibiting strong talent, has shown a strong goals and objectives plan, indicating his or her pursuit of a career specifically in country music. Apart from songwriting he has also constructed a strong ability to perform in the country market. He also is a member of major country music organizations and continues to network and market himself. The person we are welcoming into the Global Country family is Grady Brown from Stavely, Alberta.
Pictures featured are Justin Sutton, 1st place winner, Craig Silver, 2nd place winner, Kat Zel who is the 3rd placement, and Grady Brown, our Random Pick.

Global Country
Canada Has Expanded
Global Country is pleased to announce that John
Perry of Nova Scotia will be the coordinator of
the a
new Atlantic Division of Global Country. John, will serve as the
Atlantic Rep for
Country Star Search and other opportunities. He has been a long time
member of
Global Country.
Global Country will now be providing a location in
Halifax/Dartmouth to allow competitors to enter the competition without
traveling west for the annual competitions.
In the past we have had competitors travel from
Atlantic
Canada and Central Canada to compete in this very
successful competition. We have even had a
runner up come from New Brunswick and others have competed in
the
top five finalists.
We feel this is a necessary move, as many calls
and
inquiries have come from other parts of Canada
wanting to know if we can make it more accessible for them to
participate.
Country Star Search will be entering it’s 10th
year in 2016 and it seemed an opportune time to expand.
Country Music Week will be held in Halifax
this coming September.
This competition has many success stories, where
winners
from previous years have been able to further their careers as
performing
artists, song writers and even in the music business itself. The educational component of this competition
takes them on a learning trip to Nashville,
which includes songwriting opportunities and general knowledge and
history of
the Country Music business itself. In addition winners have the
opportunity to compete
at the International lever at the North American Country Music
Associations
International (NACMAI) Competitions in Pigeon Forge Tennessee. Global Country is a member of this
organization and holds a seat on the Board.
Winners benefit from a one year mentorship program
on both
sides of the line, Edmonton
and Nashville. We
will establish the same opportunity on
Atlantic Canada.
For further information on Global Country contact Maryanne Gibson at
780-951-4564 or
John Perry at 902-404-2999.
Star Search applications
will be available early in 2016.

Little Ole Opry, along with special guests. Featuring all the glitz and
glamour
of a traditional Nashville show, Lisa and her band of fine musicians
present
some to the classic all time country hits. Lisa has been a part of the
Global
Country concerts for all 15 years.
Popular favorite from several
previous Global Country
concerts, Kenny Hess, from Mission, BC, will make a return appearance,
but this
time he will also be introducing his daughter Becky, who is now also a
recording artist.
Keeping with the theme of
introducing a new generation of
artists, Krysta Scoggins, who has just released her 2nd
album,
“Shine”, will be joined by her daughter Shelby.
CCMA Hall of Fame member, R
Harlan Smith, will perform,
accompanied by his grandson, Mitchell Smith, who is also one half of
the
recording duo, The Orchard, along with former Global Country Star
Search winner
Kasha Anne. The Orchard will also perform.
Keeping things in the Global
Country family will be Livy
Jeanne and Katie Mission, who are both now country music recording
artists.
Also appearing will be last year's Star Search winner, Candice Ryan,
who just
returned from Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where she won the North American
Country
Music Associations International female vocalist and entertainer
awards, is now
receiving radio airplay across Canada, and is the official anthem
singer for
the Edmonton Oil Kings.
The show will also introduce
the winners of this year’s
Global Country Star Search which takes place on May 4th.
Emcee’s for the show
will be CFCW’s own Jackie Rae Greening
and Danny Hooper.
There will also be a Silent
Auction, and a Mix and Mingle Reception and Bar-B-Q with more
entertainment immediately
after the concert. In addition, the event will pay a special tribute to
former
Global Country founders and officials.

Andrew Scott
Andrew Scott was born

top notch and his performances are always full of funk, humour, strange
instruments, pterodactyl squawks, grunts, grooves, storytelling and
good
ol'fashioned zip zap wit. He and his wife Julie have recently returned
from a
few years of living, teaching, and performing in Japan
and France,
and
now have their eyes set on becoming a part of Canada's
vibrant musical community.

Orchard. Kasha
Derechey (2010's Global Country winner and a Berklee College of Music

and Mitchell Smith (Berklee College of Music student) make up this
brand new
project out of Edmonton. Since

Letter from 2010 Star Search Winner
Kasha Derechey
To:
Maryanne Gibson and All Members of Global Country,
I would like to
take a few moments to write a little about my experiences over
the past year as the Global Country Star Search Winner of 2010. From
the moment
of winning, to many first and unforgettable moments, this year has been
one to
remember!
I'm not sure how
to take all of the experiences from the prize package and
put them into words. I got my first taste of songwriter circles, live
music
venues, and experienced a closer encounter with the music industry.
I think
one of my favorite moments was the Nashville
trip. Bill Borgwardt
put together a flawless itinerary and from start to finish we were on
the move
experiencing the best of what Nashville
has to offer. Seeing
the Grand Ole Opry was one of my favorite moments...knowing that some
of the most inspiring artists performed on that stage. It was
really neat
to be able to see landmarks of musical history and getting the
opportunity to
gain a stronger sense of where some of the most unique and highly
recognized
artists and musicians came from. It wasn't all learning,
ofcourse...Bill and
John Perry both had us going... sometimes at midnight for late night runs to
Wal-Mart! That has become a tradition of this trip as I was informed of
it
before even coming down! They were incredibly supportive and made sure
we were
well taken care of! We shared a lot of laughs on this trip. The
competition in
Pigeon Forge was a very cool experience. I was lucky and grateful that
Maryanne
also allowed to have Mitchell Smith join me down there so we could
perform in
the Duo Category! We are very thrilled to be taking that award among
other
awards I was successful with in various categories from this
competition.
While down
in Nashville I had the
opportunity
to also meet many people who Global has connected with over the years
of doing
the Star Search program. We were missing Maryanne and everyone was
asking about
her. The reputation of Global Country could not be mistaken down there
to be
anything but great. I was honored to be down there representing Global
Country.
Thank-you so much for everything I've experienced through the Global
Country
Star Search Competition, thank-you to Maryanne Gibson, and thank-you to
Bill
Borgwardt for helping create such an amazing Nashville experience.
Looking
forward to hearing from winners for years to come!
Sincerely,
Kasha Derechey

Letter
from 2010 Star Search Winner Youth Winner Livy Jeanne and her parents
To Maryanne Gibson
I just
wanted
to let you know how Thankful we are to you and Global Country. The
experience
for Livy and ourselves was incredible!! We loved every minute of
it.
Bill and John were amazing hosts. They went above and beyond to ensure
we all had an
amazing experience... They are a definite asset to Global Country.
Both
Sid and I were
commenting on how the support of Global Country is so important to
our Canadian Country Artists, the exposure Global provides
for the artists is very much appreciated. So Thank you for
everything you
do...we know you are the Heart Beat of Global Country.
Hope to talk to you soon
Paulette, Sid, and
Livy Jeanne

The Alberta Rock N Roll Reunion concert, presented by Global Country,
is now available on DVD. Besides capturing all the excitement of 17
Alberta acts performing the songs they originally recorded nearly 50
years ago, the DVD provides an historical background to the artists and
the development of the new musical form that was known as rock and
roll. For more information or to order: www.albertarocknrollreunion.com
